Absence

Saturday, February 25, 2006

I am having totally stupid-crazy-insane computer problems which is why I have not been posting to my PAD for the last week. I hope to start posting again ASAP but as I have just lost some 40GB of data, and have another 60ish teetering on the edge of oblivion, I am more concerned with rescuing stuff before I create any more to save...

CD Player

Saturday, February 18, 2006

Bethanys CD player appeared on my desk this morning 'cos she was having trouble charging it up. Turns out that the charging circuit didn't like the batterys I had put in it :(

Still, as it was there, what better thing to do than take a photo of it...

Bubble In Amethyst

Friday, February 17, 2006

This is a bit of amethyst which has things trapped in it. The most obvious being a bubble of gas which was trapped when the crystal formed. Around the bubble there is some liquid which must have been trapped at the same time. The brown bits are tiny bits of rock which the crystal grew around. For an idea of scale, the bubble is about 1mm across and about 5mm below the surface of the amethyst.

The Tree That Was Left Behind

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

A small part of the view from a lay-by on the "Great Western Bypass" behind Totnes. I don't know what exactly the bypass bypasses, but it is a much smaller road than the name suggests ;)

I thought the tree looked like it was trying to catch up with the ones over the top of the hill, hence the odd title.

Oldway Revisited

Sunday, February 12, 2006

Staying close to home but needing some fresh air I went back to Oldway Mansion today. On the left of the picture is the facade that I took a few days ago.

Next time I go down I will see if I can get a picture of the front entrance.

Faux Old Hotel

Saturday, February 11, 2006

This place is one of the old hotels on Paignton seafront, this photo was taken from the beach promenade as it can't be seen from the road. I very much doubt that it is quite as old as it was built to look like though, but then I'm not great at arechitectural eras.

TBH more than anything (and ignoring the flu for a minute) I wish the sky would get some texture sometime, it seems to have been flat and lifeless for months :(

Oldway Mansion

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

This is the back of Oldway Mansion which is about five minutes walk from my house, originally built for/by the Singer family (of sewing machine fame). It is now in the hands of the local council who use it as office space and for all manner of civil and official meetings and 'things'.

Under The Pier

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

I always find it hard to walk under a pier or bridge without wanting to take a picture. Today I walked under Paignton Pier and found this seagul appreciating the victorian ironwork.

Batteries

Thursday, February 02, 2006

It seems that all my photographic equipment uses AA batteries which is fine except I seem to have rather a lot of them now. It'll be OK so long as they don't all need recharging at once :) (although I have two quick chargers now too)...

Scotts Pine

Wednesday, February 01, 2006

Not the greatest of shots but at least it isn't another household item macro ;)

This is a Scotts pine tree in Ilsham Marine Drive Gardens. It was quite misty and the view out to sea behind the tree was just washed out white, so I filled it with a gradient after cloning out some bits of another tree.
