Gulls @ Stover Lake

Saturday, January 14, 2006

It was the first sunny(ish) day of the year today so we went to Stover Lake for a walk around in the fresh air. These little gulls (Terns?) were everywhere enjoying the free meal of bread that kids feed the ducks with, they swoop down and grab it before it even hits the water.

edit to add - Thanks for the comment Matt, this is pretty much as it was shot, only very light post processing has been done. The birds look like thay have been cut and pasted onto the background, I think that this is due to the odd angle that the light is coming from. All I can say is that it looked the same before any PP was done :)

Ok, there's a lot of bright color in this shot, almost too much so that the gulls get lost a bit, I'd be curious to see how this would look with the background desat'd.

WOAH! Excellent capture. The background is a little distracting, but a larger aperature would have made it much harder to focus the birds properly.

Wonderful pic. Did you have to pay them with bread to get them to pose for you?

Wow! Great shot! That one on the left reminds me of some of the looks I got while shooting candids this week. Something along the lines of "Did YOU just take MY picture?!" Well done.

Great picture. Nice symmetry. Cropping at the water line may give a really odd picture ... and enhance the pasted look.
