I didn't enter the shallow DOF challenge in the end.

Tomorrow I will be starting the 30 Day "Where I Live" Challenge so expect a good few photos of Paignton and surrounding areas over the next month as I will probably post them here as my blog entries.

In The Sky

I saw a plane flying overhead past the moon and took a quick snap. It's a shot I have been trying to pull off for ages but have always found my camera lacking (or myself...). Lots of PP later I have this, still not satisfied but I think it looks interesting.

I'm brainstorming for Shallow DOF III as it will be the first repeat challenge I have entered, I really want to better my Shallow DOF II entry but it is my second highest score... Guess I had better keep on trying to think of something good as I don't think this is original enough ;-)

Paignton Sands

Hopefully they will clean up the mess from the MSC Napoli, which has been beached at Branscombe 26 miles away, properly and we won't get any extra pollution here.

I have spent most of today recreating my blog template in XML, hopefully you should notice little difference from the old blog, but if you find anything is broken please let me know ;-)

HDR

Many hours on trains and waiting around for appointments meant it was dark before I got a chance to take any photos today while I was in London. This is a three shot HDR of one of the few I did get, though I'm not sure it (the HDR, tone mapping bit) really worked very well...

Real Fire

We had our old gas fire removed (finally) before christmas, now we can have lovely warm open fires. Much nicer to look at and very much better for the environment ;-)

Experimental Me

Experimenting with overlays in PS

Edited to add: I used a photo of some old messed up paintwork and pasted it into a layer over the self portrait, then I set the layer to overlay and fiddled with the opacity until I was happy with how it looked. Finally I desaturated the whole picture a bit, I just thought it looked better. This is the overlay I used.

Having had a bit of a lie in after last nights festivities it was quite late by the time we went for our customary new years day walk on the beach. In fact, the sun had set by the time I took this photo, the reflection on the water is from the moon...
